Why CHIMKA Exists
CHIMKA Research Institution is a youth-led research and development organization based in Malawi committed to addressing critical challenges facing rural communities. The institution focuses on developing innovative and sustainable solutions that improve access to essential services such as clean water, renewable energy, food security, and quality education.
Although CHIMKA has been actively operational since 2018, the organization was formally registered in 2024 under the Government of Malawi. Since its inception, CHIMKA has implemented several impactful, youth-led initiatives combining research, innovation, and community engagement to deliver practical solutions that improve livelihoods.
CHIMKA operates at the intersection of scientific research and community action — translating evidence into tangible impact. The organization has successfully secured partnerships with funders including the Marmont Foundation and Global Change Makers, and has received recognition from the Centre for Agricultural Transformation and the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) Additionally, CHIMKA has collaborated with the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), where we trained 65 students in data collection tools and data analysis tools through the Finance and Banking Society..
Our core belief is that youth are key agents of change. Through continuous learning, research, innovation, and collaboration, CHIMKA strives to develop sustainable, research-based solutions, strengthen community resilience, promote inclusive development in rural Malawi, and build capacity among young researchers and practitioners.
